Google’s Competition Beating them at their own Game

Google’s Gmail service has been a revolution to how web-based e-mail works. Not because of AJAX, but because how easy it is to use.
Zoho, a competitor to Gmail, announced today that they are moving out of private beta and into the public eye. Here is a little excerpt from Zoho’s website about who [...]

Gmail and Docs Become Friends

Gmail and Docs Become Friends

Gmail and Docs become friends recently. When receiving an XLS file as an attachment, it offers an easy way to open it with Google Docs. This is the start of what we will soon see as service-wide integration of all the new products. The JotSpot acquisition, the Writely acquisition, and I’m sure we will have much more to come from these new “office” products. Google is trying to create a completely integrated system for users to make it easy to use. They are doing just that and they are doing a great job of it.

Google Docs

Google Docs was launched recently. But what exactly does this mean? This means Microsoft just obtained a new and serious competitor to Office. While Microsoft Office has dominated the playing field for quite some time now, Google has stepped in and will become a major player in the “office” industry. Right now, Google Docs is composed of spreadsheets and document writing. While the features aren’t

Become a Google Tester

Philipp puts out a good word here about becoming a Google Beta Tester. I just finished my application a few minutes ago for it. Q: Do I get paid? A: Yes – it depends on the type of study, but typically we pay $75 for each hour that you spend with a Google researcher, either in person or on the phone. Most studies last for one to one-and-a-half

Complete List of Google Services

Complete List of Google Services

I was just checking my GMail a few minutes ago and thought I would check out all the services for my account. Below is a screen shot of all the services attached to my account. I’ve got AdWords, Analytics, Base, Calendar, Co-op, Froogle, GMail, Groups, Notebook, Page Creator, Personalized Homepage, Personalized Search, Picasa (web galleries), Reader, Spreadsheets, Webmaster Tools, and Writely. I believe the only beta service products I have are Writely and Page Creator, the rest seem to be public services right now. The only services I really use on a daily basis are AdWords, Analytics, GMail, and Webmaster Tools. The rest are great to have, but I don’t use many of the services really.

Writely To Use Google Accounts

As Writely.com was purchased back in March 2006, Google has slowly been sending out invites to test out the online application. Up until now, Writely was using independent accounts away from the Google Account network. That’s going to change soon. Writely will soon be integrating into the Google Account network which will allow you to login via your Google Account and access the Writely platform. Here’s what they have to say about it. In a few days, we will update your Writely account to use your Google Account registration settings. This means you’ll need to use your Google Account password when signing in, not your Writely password (if they’re different).

Writely On The Right Path

Writely On The Right Path

Google’s recently purchased Writely software has opened up shop for new accounts. With this new web application online and available, there no doubt in the industry that Google will be releasing another application very similiar to powerpoint. Personally, I don’t doubt for a second that Google will soon be competing against Microsoft in the Office battle. Google can and will provide these products for free. Why can they? Because they aren’t evil. Google is all about open source and sharing. Maybe that’s why their stock price right now is almost 10x that of what Microsoft’s is.
