Google Losing China to Microsoft

Google is indirectly losing China’s market share to Microsoft. This is happening through the Microsoft-Founder agreement announced this morning. “San Francisco (IDGNS) – Founder Technology Group, China’s second-largest PC maker, agreed to preinstall Windows Vista on laptop computers and commercial desktops, closing a loophole in an earlier deal with Microsoft that potentially exempted commercial PCs from agreements to preinstall Windows.” Google’s search engine product (which they are originally based around) is going to lose some serious market share to Microsoft’s Live.com because of the pre-installation of Windows on these new machines produced by Founder Technology Group. With Live.com taking more of the market in China — with a current population of 1,321,851,888 (as of July, 2007) — Google’s loses will be noticeable.

Seagate Barracuda 750GB – Now That’s Hot!

Dating back 8 months ago, I wrote an article about my desktop setup. After those 8 months, I have to say that I’m really happy with the hardware that I purchased and it’s been working great. A few hick-ups, but that’s normal with any hardware. But I do have to say that my next computer will be an Apple, without a doubt. I’m starting to look at the Mac Pro, but by the time that I’m seriously ready to buy a new desktop, they will have something bigger and better.
I received a couple e-mails from Newegg today and saw they were highlighting the 750GB Seagate Barracuda. A few years back, I remember getting the 40GB Barracudas for my friend Matt. Then I also recalled that I had the Barracudas in my current machine, but mine are only 320GB instead of the 750GB.

Google Encourages Docs and Spreadsheets Usage

Google Encourages Docs and Spreadsheets Usage

When going to Google Docs & Spreadsheets today, I noticed a small pop-up … which is really out of the ordinary for Google. So I took a look at it to see what it exactly said. As stated above, Google is starting to really encourage users to start using their document viewer/editor and their spreadsheets viewer/editor instead of the default already installed on your machine. Google wants to ramp up its usage so people get used to it a lot more. I haven’t seen any other kinds of these encouragements to use the Google products before, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we started seeing these more often. Hopefully though, not in this pop-up form because pop-ups are always annoying.

Microsoft Playing Catch-up with Adobe and Macromedia

Microsoft has dabbled in the web creation industry in the past with Microsoft Office Frontpage and Publisher, but they haven’t really dug deep into the industry at all. Here they are releasing a product called Microsoft Expression Web which is geared towards students, business professionals, and well, basically everyone.
It doesn’t come at a cheap price though. Looking at the Best Buy listing, it’s running for $269.99 retail. To my surprise as well, it’s only available at Best Buy, Staples, and Amazon.com. This new application will be a direct competitor of Macromedia Fireworks/Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop. While Microsoft is very late in the game, they seem they have the ability to pick up the slack and actually get back into it.

Adobe Web Bundle Review

Adobe Web Bundle Review

I recently purchased the Adobe Web Bundle package. I am quite amazing by this product package. I was looking around for the Adobe CS Suite package and then realized that Adobe had acquired Macromedia not too long ago, so I went ahead and looked for the Macromedia Studio package.
Sure enough, I found the Studio 8 package. I bought the Macromedia Studio MX 2004 a few years ago and I was decently impressed by it. I’ve never been a fan of creating tables by hand; they simply do not interest me. So whenever I needed a table done, I would whip up Dreamweaver MX 2004 and get it done.
Another cool product was Fireworks MX 2004. I used this product mainly for exporting jpg files into HTML that I didn’t want to code. That’s not to say I didn’t care about how the code looked, it purely meant that I needed to get the job done quickly for a quick preview or something and I didn’t care how the code was written.
