The press release was pulled.

Update 1:00pm EST: The press release is now available.

Shortly after, this is where it sends you:

But fortunately, there are press release partners like businesswire.com that will still carry the press release, even though Google may have taken it down. Here is what the press release said,

DoubleClick Serves Into Silverlight to Power Video Advertising for NBC Universal Digital Media

DoubleClick In-Stream Powers Video Advertising in Flash, RealMedia, Windows Media and Now Silverlight 2 Players

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, DoubleClick, a premier provider of digital marketing technology and services, announced the new capability to serve video ads into Microsoft Silverlight 2 video environments. The move is part of DoubleClick’s ongoing effort to help clients maximize the yield on their advertising inventory as they deliver content into emergent online, video and mobile channels.

With this new feature of DoubleClick In-Stream, DoubleClick clients such as NBC Universal Digital Media are able to monetize video content played within the Silverlight 2 player. NBCOlympics.com, a division of NBC Universal, will be one of the first sites to open Silverlight 2 content up to advertisers with DoubleClick In-Stream. The solution carves out new video inventory across 2,500 hours of video content running as part of NBC’s Olympics coverage.

“Microsoft has always had a strong commitment to working closely with partners and the industry to enable them to leverage our tools and platform to deliver great user experiences. With Silverlight, we’ve extended that commitment to the advertising space,” said Scott Guthrie, Corporate Vice President, .NET Developer Division. “We’re pleased to see the investment DoubleClick has made to enable customers such as NBCOlympics.com to take advantage of Silverlight to offer compelling packages to their advertisers.”

DoubleClick In-Stream is a video ad serving solution used by online publishers to deliver exciting new advertising experiences into Flash, Real Media, Windows Media and now Silverlight 2 video players. As part of the DoubleClick Revenue Center, the product is completely integrated into DoubleClick’s core ad serving platform, DART for Publishers. The combined DoubleClick solution enables trafficking, targeting forecasting and reporting for video advertising. By working with DoubleClick to serve ads into Silverlight 2, NBCOlympics.com is able to leverage their existing ad operations workflow and staff to package video ads with other opportunities, such as online display and mobile ads. One platform for online display, video and mobile has made it possible for NBC to create compelling cross-channel packages for advertisers who want to reach the Olympics-viewing audience.

“With hundreds of advertisers, multiple platforms and large site traffic spikes, we needed to work with a partner that could provide an integrated, scalable, robust solution,” said Steven Gold, Vice President, Sales Planning and Operations, NBC Universal Digital Media. “Thanks to DoubleClick In-Stream’s new support for Silverlight 2, we are able to monetize our groundbreaking online video coverage on the same platform we already use for display and mobile advertising. This lets our sales and operations teams work together really efficiently.”

“DoubleClick’s vision is to help publishers grow their revenues by creating great user experiences and providing compelling value to advertisers,” said Google Group Product Manager Ari Paparo. “By expanding the capabilities of DoubleClick In-Stream to work with Silverlight 2, we can make it possible for clients to create unique entertainment and advertising experiences without increasing their workload or creating new complex processes.”

So, in short, Google announced that they will be integrating their ad platform into Silverlight. Woops, there goes the strong hand for Microsoft on advertising.

The advertising integration is [was?] planned to be an in-video integration and experience for the end-user.

This proves to be another great reason why the acquisition of DoubleClick was a good move for Google, but this announcement does make Microsoft look kind of silly.

Thanks to Mashable for initially running the story.

“Today, MySpace is launching enhanced functionality for MySpace mail using Gears. They are using the original Gears Database API with Full Text Search to enable fast and easy search and sort capabilities. The latest build of WordPress also integrates Gears, to improve performance, and to let users manage their blogs offline. And as many of you know, the Google Docs team added offline capabilities just a few weeks ago.”

This is a huge step for MySpace to create more synergy and love with Google. Facebook needs to follow suit, and quickly, on this one.

“Finally, we want Gears to be available to everyone, regardless of platform or browser. To that end, we are currently adding Firefox 3 and Safari support. And Opera is working to support Gears on both desktop and mobile. These new platforms will nicely complement our current set: Internet Explorer and Firefox, across Windows, Mac, Linux, and even Windows Mobile.”

<del>Google</del> Gears will be easily accessible for platforms across the world. Google is putting forth a great effort to help offset some of the server load on popular sites to help create a better browsing experience.

I like <del>Google</del> Gears, I think it’s a great product. I use it for Google Reader and a number of other products already. It has a great future, I feel.

Something I have noticed more and more lately is what software powers corporate blogs. Sure, I understand that eBay is using Wordpress, that CNN is using Wordpress, even that the MozillaZine Weblogs are powered by Movable Type. That’s cool, I understand all that.

But something I don’t understand is why Yahoo! is using Wordpress. Yahoo! announced the release of Yahoo! 360 over three years ago.

Here are some of the features that Yahoo! 360 features,

Blogs — Create a blog, post entries or pictures from mobile devices, view friends’ blog entries at Yahoo! 360, My Yahoo!, Yahoo!’s Mobile Internet service or through any RSS reader

Photo sharing — Share Yahoo! Photos content and upload new photos from mobile devices

Easy communication — Send and receive instant messages via Yahoo! Messenger and see when friends are online right from the Yahoo! 360 “My Friends” page

“Blasts” — Share a quick idea, a cool website or ask for a recommendation with the Yahoo! 360 “blast” feature

Yahoo! contact management — Easily manage contracts and stay in touch with friends, thanks to a centralized list of all Yahoo! Messenger, Groups and Address Book contacts

Community building — Search for people with similar interests from across the Yahoo! 360 network

Content sharing — Share photos, reviews, LAUNCHcast Radio stations, groups and more quickly and easily

Recommendations — Recommend favorite books, movies, TV shows and restaurants to friends and associates

“My Friends” page — Stay up to speed with the latest blogs, photos and comments from friends all in one central location

The first thing mentioned about the features offered is a blog service.

So this is the question I have you: why is Yahoo! using Wordpress on a number of their properties when they already own a blogging service?

It actually seems like Yahoo! 360 would help make their corporate blogs more interactive and help get their users involved. But alas, they have chosen to use Wordpress over their own product.

Let’s take a look at Google now.

Looking at all of the corporate Google blogs you can see that they are all using Blogger. Blogger was acquired back in 2002 by Google.

Google made a wise decision in purchasing Blogger as it has helped them retain a lot more information and make things more accessible on a global basis.

Yahoo! still needs to wake up and figure out what on earth they are going to do about their competitor’s property, Blogger.

Great feature? You bet!

This feature is specifically targeted at a few types of people, I feel. The people that travel a lot and don’t yet have the Verizon or Sprint mobile Wi-Fi cards and the second type of person that flies a lot.

Google needs to continue to move to this kind of system to allow for people to use their services offline.

How do you “go offline”? It’s easy!

When you’re viewing your Google Docs, simply click on the Offline button the very top. Please note, you will need Google Gears installed to be able to use the Offline functionality.

Look for a HOWTO guide on how to use Google Gears for Offline functionality later this week!

Let’s visit some of the Google Trademarks out there right now. Google has a few guidelines for trademark usage, slogans, and logos.

What is a trademark?

“A trademark is a word, name, symbol or device (or a combination thereof) that identifies the goods or services of a person or company and distinguishes them from the goods and services of others. A trademark assures consumers of consistent quality with respect to those goods or services and aids in their promotion. “

Google has quite a few trademarks out there that they want to protect for brand image.

We will not be digging into legal issues with trademarks here nor discussion of it too much, but this article is a primer for what is to come very soon.

I will be going through a series of articles which will outline trademark usage and general information of trademarks.

Here are a few examples of existing Google trademarks.

Here is what Google has to say about [losing] the auction.

“Nonetheless, partly as a result of our bidding, consumers soon should have new freedom to get the most out of their mobile phones and other wireless devices.”

It’s true though. Google put down some serious new guidelines and asked for the FCC to follow these guidelines if they wanted Google’s participation. Upon agreeing to those terms, Google placed a bid.

The auction has produced some great revenue for the government. Google has set some higher standards for the use of the frequency that Verizon has acquired licenses for, so after everything is said and done, everyone seems to be happy.

Reported on Friday by Greg Robbins of the Google Mac Team, the Google Data APIs are coming to the iPhone. The Data APIs will be coming to the iPhone via the Objective-C application development language, native to Mac OS X.

The new source files for Google Data APIs are under version 1.4 and compile without a problem using the iPhone SDK.

“If you are a Mac or iPhone developer looking to integrate Google’s services with your application, or if you’re just curious, take a look at the project and the examples on our Google Code site.”

It has not been a secret that Google is moving into the mobile industry. So what better way to get a piece of the action than to provide services dedicated to the iPhone.

Google definitely wants a piece, if not the whole pie, of the action for the mobile industry and they are making every effort to ensure that happens.

Google has added a second search input field to results. It doesn’t appear for every search, but for some select queries it does. For this example, we will be looking at the terms “best buy” on Google.

Personally, I never use the “more pages from X.domain” because if I want to use such a query, I would have started with that query. I do not know the analytics of google.com and how people actually do use the links.

It appears as though Google has decided to provide a search box instead of just having a link. Here is what it looks like,

Now there is larger problem at hand. Google is providing a way to more easily find competitors of BestBuy.com. You’ve got MyCricket.com, VerizonWireless.com, or 1800mobiles.com as competition to Best Buy’s Wireless division. If I were BestBuy.com, I would certainly not want my competition being more easily accessible than I was.

That said, I predict that Google will fade away this second search box just like they have for some of their other universal search features.

This morning, the New York Times reported on what Google is thinking about doing. Last week, Google lost the FCC wireless auction to Verizon and AT&T, but Google actually still “scored a victory” because they achieved what they were hoping to, opening up the airwaves for “any legal devices.”

Google is planning and hoping that the FCC will make those old TV airwaves a license-free zone. Doing so would allow for any company to use them and Google is looking at using them for Internet access.

“Portable technology is outselling personal computers, giving the company new spots to place online advertising.” Based on this being true, it is no wonder that Google has been seeking the mobile market so strongly.

We have seen Google take quite a few steps already to move into the mobile market, so there’s no denying that they want a piece of the action. AdWords is still their biggest money-maker, so the more eyes they can get to view those ads, the more money they can make.

Let’s take a look if these moves really fit into the mission statement for Google though, “Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.“

I feel that Google’s actions do fit in with their mission statement.

Google is trying to create a network that will make information universally accessible for nearly everyone. Sure, they are trying to make a buck off of it, but they are still trying to make it universally accessible.

The FCC finally pulled through with the 700mhz frequency auction results. Google did not win.

Verizon won the auction, with a nice price tag of $9.6bn.

It really turns out that the spectrum will be used by the already-existing mobile players, such as AT&T, Verizon, and Vodafone (which is part of the Verizon Wireless Group).

AT&T already has interchangeable handsets which makes it easy for their corporation to utilize the 700mhz, but Verizon will have a slightly more difficult time progressing forward. “A section of the C block will be set aside for devices and services that can be interchangeable by consumers among different vendors.“

But this is a little surprising, “The two other major mobile phone services providers — Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) and T-Mobile — didn’t bid in the auction.“

Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon and Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) Group, won the highly sought-after nationwide “C” block of licenses. AT&T won 227 licenses from among the B block of regional licenses. Frontier Wireless gained airwaves in the E block of the auction, covering almost all of the United States.

So all that to say, Google did not win the auction, despite previous reports — which are now proving to be incorrect.
