Sports Trending

Google has a good measurement tool called Google Trends, which lets you visualize how much a specific term is searched.
The graph below represents the last six years worth of search data for the major sports within the USA. What can we take away from this graph?
It’s easy to see that Football is by far the leader of sports in the search world. Does that take into account the “type” of fan each sport has? It definitely does.
One thing that jumps out to me is the hockey spike that you can see in early 2010. The soccer spike in 2006 is expected and we should expect to see a similar spike in 2010 because of the world cup.
