Google Webmaster Tools Removes PageRank Indicator

The Google Webmaster Tools team removed the PageRank indicator from the dashboard today.
Here’s what Google has to say about it,
We’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it. :-)
While I agree, yes, people shouldn’t be too concerned about PageRank, I still feel it was important to know which page Google was giving the most juice on the site.
Remove it entirely? For the overall community of webmasters, yes, it was probably a good idea. For advanced SEO webmasters that know better than to really care about PageRank as a number, they shouldn’t have. It’s a toss of whether or not they really should have removed it.

Actually, Alexa has absolutely nothing to do with SEO. Alexa is a worthless measurement.

I think they will soon stop the updates all together in the toolbar, infact there may not be another update. Who needs this anyway ;)

That actually wouldn’t be a half bad idea, of completely removing “public” PageRank entirely. It really has no external value anymore and it’s just an ego-booster for webmasters.
Good idea!

Is this a sign of things to come? I wonder if they will do away with page rank in the toolbar, or I wonder if this will negatively affect Google’s brand if they go back on this.
