Google Adds Voice Communication

Google is ready to get serious about voice communication. Adding tons of new functionality with voice communication so you can have your voice mail transcribed, sent to you via SMS, or left in you mailbox online. There are endless possibilities while having this kind of technology.
This voice addition is a great partner to the existing GrandCentral acquisition that Google made back in July 2007. It is certain that these will be integrated together, just look at the copy text on grandcentral.com, then look at the copy text at google.com/voice.
Here’s a short video explaining Google Voice.

Numerous services like this already exist with much more of a robust feature set.
Service likes RingCentral, GotVmail, OneBox, VirtualPBX etc.
They all offer this and 1000 times more.
Granted they are paid but they also offer 800 numbers where Google doesn’t.
All depends on if you view the service for personal use or business.
If for business I’d definitely go for one of the others…for $10 vs. free you get much more.
My 2 cents.

Teresa,
I definitely agree with you. There are better and more robust services already out there, but this is Google and Google is all about the free services.
For an average user that isn’t running a business, this is a great solution. It’s completely integrated into your Google account and free, so I think on average, users will want to use it.
If I had a GrandCentral number, I would probably use it too.

We (I) use almost every free service of Google’s. Mostly as a matter of convenience because everything is connected to one account. So, the more they add, the more I try.
I think it’s a matter of how you use the “free” services that will determine it’s limits.
I’ll try it though. :)
