AdWords Testing New “Expandable” Ads

This sure looks a lot like pop-outs to me, rather than what they are terming them as “expandable ads.”

Here’s what they are describing it as.

New Google AdWords Expandable Ads

Here is what they have to say about the new ad type,

Expandable ads on the Google content network are designed to automatically expand in the direction where the most space is available on the screen. They must be clicked by the user to expand and contract. These features help create a positive experience for users and provide you with more accurate ad engagement metrics by avoiding expansions triggered by accidental mouse-overs. Expandable ads can also help AdSense publishers by engaging users on their sites with more ad variety and opportunities to interact with the ad content.

Google’s flagship products, AdSense and AdWords, have been extremely successful for Google. So it indeed makes sense to want to expand on those products. Google is also offering video ad units for AdWords advertisers, now here is just one more type of ad unit that advertisers can select to help engage their audience with the advertising.

Personally, I will try to block all types of these ads as they are real estate-consuming and I do not want my visitors being bothered by nasty ads like these.
