Google is restructuring its management for Google.org, the non-profit sector of Google.

Dr. Larry Brilliant will be stepping down from managing Google.org and Megan Smith, the Vice President of Business Development for Google, will be taking Brilliant’s place. Smith will retain her position as VP of Biz Dev though.

Sergey and Larry want to refocus Google.org back to the original mission statement of the non-profit arm of Google. “By aligning Google.org more closely with Google as a whole, Megan will ensure that we’re better able to build innovative, scalable technology and information solutions,” Brilliant said. The DotOrg arm will not lose any investment; Google is staying fully committed to the DotOrg, but they are reorganizing and restructuring to ensure that the investment is going to the right projects.

Brilliant continued saying, “We stand behind the commitment made in 2004 to devote 1% of Google’s equity and profits to philanthropy, and we will continue to iterate on our philanthropic model to make sure our resources have the greatest possible impact for good.”

Google is strongly committed to continuing these various projects such FluTrends, PowerMeter, and RechargeIT.
