Urchin 6.5 Now Available

Posted at 7:52pm EST on 02/06/2009

“After months of intensive development, we are excited to announce the release of Urchin 6.5, which contains a much asked-for new feature: AdWords integration.” Months? Try YEARS! It certainly feels a lot longer than just a few months of development for a new release of Urchin.

But that’s awesome! Great news for Urchin users that there is finally AdWords integration.

There are a ton of bug fixes and new features. Here are just a few.

  • Geo-database functions
  • Improved configuration-manager utility
  • Updated Help Center articles
  • New browser recognition including Chrome and Android

So why would you want to fork over US$2,995 to buy Urchin instead of just using Google Analytics? Because you’re anal about security and data retention (this is a good thing, not a bad thing.)

How do I get Urchin?

Visit www.Urchin.com.

If I had the real need to do it, I would be hosting Urchin for all of my sites. But really, the reason Google even still puts our Urchin is for those companies that want to keep all of their data in-house and not share it with Google’s marketing team.

Oh, you thought that when using Google Analytics you were keeping your data secret? Ha! Think again. You are certainly sharing every single hit with Google. But it’s free, so don’t complain too loudly.

    “We’ve only just begun…”

I expect to see a lot from Urchin in the next 18 months, especially since we’ve seen 4 versions in 9 months. If you want to see v6.5 in action, there’s a free webinar here:
