In recent news, Verizon chose Microsoft over both Google and Yahoo! as its search provider for its mobile devices.

Obviously Verizon did not choose Microsoft based on advanced or superior technology, but it’s purely based on the dollar amount of the deal. Microsoft must have forked out some serious cash to be selected as Verizon’s mobile search partner in an effort to gain more exposure for their Live.com search engine.

This announcement came to us from Steve Ballmer during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) happening in Las Vegas, NV right now.

Live Search may soon have a new name, perhaps even before it gets to Verizon’s phones. Microsoft is widely rumored to be renaming its search engine Kumo, but the company has not confirmed that.

But of course, this does not come as any surprise as we were expecting this for quite some time already.
