Gmail Calendar Widget in Gmail Labs

There are a number of cool things in Gmail Labs right now, but here is a short review of one specific labs product that I think is really useful.

Google Gmail Calendar Widget

Above is the description of what this nifty little labs product can do. But let me show you what it can really do.

The Gmail Calendar Widget can revolutionize how you use your calendar. I use a few different applications to manage my calendar. I use iCal on my Mac, enhanced by BusySync ($25) by BusyMac, which will let me sync my iCal calendars to Google account. This is a very helpful feature because it will let me manage a single calendar from anywhere I am. Whether I’m on my Macbook Air or I’m on my PC, or even if I’m mobile, I can manage the same calendar.

Another insider tip about my life is that I actually like the Gmail web interface, so I’m on it frequently. I have IMAP for Gmail activated in my Thunderbird client, but I don’t really use it all that much.

Since I use the Gmail interface quite often, it’s nice to have all the tools I need right in front of me.

The widget is quite easy to use and I’ve found it be quite handy when I need to get something done quickly. An example of how you can use it is like this.

You can use simple commands like, 1pm lunch with sarah, to easily add a lunch meeting with sarah at 1pm for that day. Or, you could use, 4:45pm meeting with Brett about the event coming up 11/30 and it will at an event at 4:45pm with that note for the day of 11/30.

I love how easy it is to use and how effective it is with my current setup that I strongly recommend anyone else using Google Calendar and Gmail, to use this labs product.

I really hope the Gmail team integrates this into this product into the core of Gmail.
