Online Playback System with a Community Bias

Yahoo! has their work cut out for them. Google, even more so.

Yahoo! recently registered a patent for an “online playback system with community bias.”

This looks to me like an attempt to re-innovate Yahoo! Video to create a feature that tops YouTube.

The new idea behind this patent for Yahoo!, I believe, is one that will enable Yahoo! Video users to “subscribe” to their friends and see what their friends do or don’t like. Therefor, giving them the ability to see other videos of similar taste to their own.

This kind of technology could be huge in boosting traffic to Yahoo! Video, which is suffering in traffic due to the popularity of YouTube.

Yahoo! needs a come back to stay in the video game.
