Google Moves Support from Groups to Forums

Posted at 3:11pm EST on 11/10/2008

Google recently announced that they are moving all of their support over to a forum rather than Google Groups.

This is a pretty big shift. The look is different, the feel is different, and the usability is different. It actually feels more like a forum now, rather than just a discussion group (which can be interpreted as the same, but I think they are different).

Here is the current list of products you can receive support for via this support forum system.

Here is a screen shot of what the new forums actually look like, from a discussion listing point of view (POV).

New Google Support System via Forums

Overall, I’m really glad they made the transition to the new system. I think it will be far more effective than using Google Groups.

Hopefully it does improve. The use of Google Groups has resulted in tonnes of unanswered requests from users facing problems.

e.g. when Feedburner wasn’t part of Google, we received replies within a day. Now, well the support is in the Google Group where you never get a reply.

Yeah, it’s sad to see how bad the support got, but hopefully that will swing around now.
