Google Extends 99.9% SLAs to Everyday Users

Google is proud to announce that they are extending their 99.9% SLAs (Service Level Agreements) to non-premiere users.

I do have a small problem with this though. I love great SLAs, but when you offer something for free, there’s nothing you can get in return if their service indeed does go down.

For example, if my web host were to suffer from an outage, either the network or a hardware failure, the SLA would provide me an explanation of what is due to me. Whether it’s a reimbursement of $95 or $120 or $15 because the service was down for 15 minutes or an hour, but when you offer something for free, what is the SLA worth?

In my opinion, the SLAs that they are extending is worthless because you’re not paying for the service to begin with.

Why Google extended them to non-paying users is beyond my understanding.
