Google announced today that they will be launching their own browser as of tomorrow (Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008).
The browser name? Google Chrome.
So what will make the Google Chrome browser better than Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer Opera? “On the surface, we designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple.”
- “We also built a more powerful JavaScript engine, V8, to power the next generation of web applications that aren’t even possible in today’s browsers.”
Is this a from-the-ground-up written browser? Nope.
We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we’re committed to continuing on their path. We’ve used components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox, among others — and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.
Google is pulling in all sorts of resources for this one.
Check back soon, Google will be posting more about Google Chrome shortly.

First Android, now this? If I didn’t know better, I’d think Google was trying to take over the world.
Really sweet, I’ll be sure to look for it tomorrow.
