Google Health finally launches

Google Health has long been in the works. It is finally publicly available.

Google has a tour available which gives you in-depth answers to what Google Health can do for you.

In a brief overview, Google Health will actually do more for you than most other Google products. Google Health will make available all of your health care records. This is, of course, dependent on your doctor being opted into the Google Health service.

Here is a short list of Personal Health Services which already have partnered to take part in the Google Health service. Google Health will also let you import your health records.

Is it the best idea to jump into this service head first without thinking about it? Definitely not.

Some questions to think about before signing up for this service are…

  • Do I want Google having access to everything medical about me?
  • What is Google going to do with this data once they have received it?
  • What kind of security and privacy measures will Google be taking on my behalf?
  • How long will Google be keeping these records?
  • What if I wish to stop using Google Health, where will my records go?

These are just a few questions you may want to ask yourself before signing up.

For quick reference, here are some links which you will want to review carefully before signing up.

Personally, I’m a little weary of the idea of having my health records online, so I’m going to shy away from the idea of signing up for now. I may revisit the idea in the future though.
