Unsuccessful Marketing on Facebook

I have noticed recently that more and more folks are adding me on Facebook simply because I’m in the industry. I won’t lie, I’ve done it too. But normally I won’t add a message to the request, I just simply add them. It’s very rare that I would do that, but I’ve done it.

This, however, is an example of a bad marketing attempt.

This article is not intended to be a flame towards that person as that’s not why I write. I am writing this article because I wanted to express my opinion that there are better ways to do Internet marketing.

If you are trying to market yourself on Facebook, you really need to get into the industry by attending events. Do not try to just add as many friends as possible on Facebook. There’s no possible way that people are going to remember who you are or care about what you have to say.

Steps you could take for better Internet marketing via Facebook,

  • Attend physical events (so people can actually meet you and talk to you, then remember who you are)
  • Create a publication online (now commonly known as “blogging”)

The bottom line is that you cannot expect to brand yourself or even be noticed until you take the initiative to meet people face to face.
