Presentations and Spreadsheets Go Offline

Posted at 7:49am EST on 04/29/2008

Last week, the Google Docs team announced that Google Docs Presentations and Google Docs Spreadsheets will be available offline.

Great feature? You bet!

This feature is specifically targeted at a few types of people, I feel. The people that travel a lot and don’t yet have the Verizon or Sprint mobile Wi-Fi cards and the second type of person that flies a lot.

Google needs to continue to move to this kind of system to allow for people to use their services offline.

How do you “go offline”? It’s easy!

When you’re viewing your Google Docs, simply click on the Offline button the very top. Please note, you will need Google Gears installed to be able to use the Offline functionality.

Look for a HOWTO guide on how to use Google Gears for Offline functionality later this week!

    Hi there! Thanks for the nice post on Google Docs and Gears, and for teaching your readers how to use it. I’m on the Gears team at Google so appreciate it. BTW, feel free to ping me if you have any questions on Gears. What kinds of stuff do you work on?

    @Brad,

    Awesome! Great. Thanks for your comment and extending a hand wherever needed.

    Great to see the Google team reaching out.

    I’ll definitely be e-mailing you soon with some questions/comments.

    I personally don’t do anything with Google Gears as I’m not a developer, but I do like to report on the different uses it has and how it can effect world wide web functionality.

    Thanks!
