Welcome to the first post of the GoogleRadar column here on Google Inside. This column will feature social, internet, and general web happens (and little blips) about Google that may go unnoticed to everyone else.

The point of this column will be to collect tidbits here and there on the web, then to write more in-depth information and content regarding the little tidbit.

So what’s on the radar today?

“i’ve just realised that my choice of company name means the website will never, ever appear in the first page of search results on google.”

(twitter)

This is becoming far less common everyday, but it’s still a factor.

Choosing a company name always has been and will continue to be critical. I say that in the context of branding and marketing. Today’s generation has something entirely different to deal with though. Search engines.

Search engines play a huge role in being successful. I will not say that it is the only role in being successful, but it is huge.

Choosing a company is not an easy task.

Some of the successful companies out there that have done a great job of branding are companies such as 37 Signals, 9 Rules, and Gawker Media. They have accomplished brand recognition by using creative methods.

Here are some other successful companies so far. Text Link Ads Inc, PayPerPost, and SEO Inc.

So what do all these companies have in common? Success. Through one method or another, they have created success by branding themselves to appear in the search results. Sure, Search Engine Optimization must take place for any company, but branding is a big part of it.

Back to the GoogleRadar blip though. Choosing a company name.

Choose carefully. You want a company name that is,

  1. Easy to say
  2. Easy to remember
  3. Easy to type
  4. Easy to link to
