Gmail: Muting or Ignoring Conversations
Posted by jonathan at 5:20pm EST on 03/03/2008
Gmail quietly released a new feature. “Muting or ignoring coversations.”

Issue: You have an on-going conversation with half a dozen other people that keep using reply-all (and secretly, you do not even care about the conversation). So what do you do to ignore the conversation but still keep record of it? Mute it!
Keyboard shortcut to mute a conversation: ‘m‘
Keyboard shortcut to unmute a conversation: N/A (unfortunately, there is not a keyboard shortcut for “move to inbox” yet — which is how you unmute a conversation)
Here are some more technical specs from Google’s help pages.
Muted messages are not marked as read, are still searchable, and can specifically be found by searching for:
is:muted
Filters will still be applied to muted messages.
