Google holds an annual Summer of Code event. Today, they announced the beginning of this year’s event. Last year, they didn’t announce the event until mid-March, so it’s a little bit earlier for 2008.
The announcement indeed came earlier, but registration still won’t begin until early March. “We’ll begin accepting applications from mentoring organizations on Monday, March 3, 2008, and student applications on Monday, March 24th.“
This year’s event marks the 4th anniversary of the sponsorship by Google; 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Something to note is what happened last year with the Google Summer of Code program. Most notably, the amount of time for preparation has been increased.
