I’m an avid fan of Digitally Imported radio (www.di.fm) and I listen to it almost everyday. As part of their free listening, there are ads, but I heard an ad that will drastically change how online radios function … and possibly destroy all online radios.
Anyone and everyone that loves or even just occasionally listens to radio online such as Digitally Imported, please, please, please, I urge you to go to SaveNetRadio.org and voice your opinion. Online radio needs you to help support the new act in order to keep Internet radio alive.
On Friday March 2nd, the U.S. government, through the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), made a determination of the royalty rates Internet Radio webcasters must pay the owners of sound recording copyrights to license the music they webcast for the years 2006-2010. The license is paid to SoundExchange, a nonprofit organization that collects royalty payments from digital music broadcasters and distributes them to rights holders.
