This past Tuesday, Google Apps was down which affected many customers. Now that Google is offering a paid service compared to all of their free services, they do have a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to uphold and be responsible for. The downtime incurred effected e-mail as the majority of the service for some clients such as Prudential Preferred Properties in Chicago, says PC World.
Following new products launches of Google, it seems to be a trend that they continually underestimate the number of customers or sign-ups that will happen on the initial launch of a new product. This happened with Google Analytics, Gmail, and the list goes on.
What does Google need to do better? Anticipate much higher loads. Google has, by far, the largest single computer-clustered network in the world. Google has the largest computing power in the world as well, why not use that to their advantage? They launch these new services but they continue to fail on giving it enough power.
