A little over a week ago, Google announced that they will be building a new datacenter in North Carolina. The new datacenter investment will cost roughly USD$600 million. It’s said that this new datacenter will house the next-generation server farm for the Similarity Engine of Google Search.
The state of North Carolina is definitely pleased with Google’s announcement, but Google did not just decide to open its doors in North Carolina on a whim. Earlier this year the state put forward roughly $4.8 million as part of an incentives package for Google. The incentives package can grow up to $100 million if Google decides to stay in the region.
It looks to be that Google won’t be the only group benefiting from this decision. Possibly hundreds of new jobs will become available because of his datacenter and will help grow their economy for that specific area.
