Google Strongly Supports the Joomla! CMS

As it’s pretty clear by the title, this announce comes in the form of an event. Google, as we already know, is a strong supporter of Open Source projects. With that in mind, this announcement about Joomla! doesn’t come as a huge surprise.

I am glad to see that the event happened right here in New York City (where I live now), but a shame that it wasn’t too widely marketed aside from the Joomla! community site. I might have attended if I had been paying a little closer attention to the Joomla! community news.

Joomla! has some great things in its future, but for now, I’m still going to stick with my trusty Wordpress platform.

    Hi.

    Joomla is excellent, when it comes to sites for organizations or companies – they do really well. The custom templates and the whole templating system is awesome – a designers dream to mold.

    However, Wordpress, is nothing short of it. Being much easier to use, Wordpress would be my choice.

    Its just that, Joomla comes out of the box with a lot of options that lets you setup like a pro.

    But for wordpress, there is still a lot of css and html to do – in order to personalize your site properly.

    Ehab,

    I completely agree with you. I have been extremely happy with the Wordpress platform. The community powering it has made it extremely flexible to use — for any reason.

    I’ve built a number of various websites using Wordpress simply because it’s so easy to use. Joomla and Drupal have a larger learning curve for the theme development. I feel Wordpress knows how to do it right.

    I have a new site that I’m getting ready to launch soon called StudenTools.com, which is all Wordpress-based. I’m still playing around with some different things, but it’s really coming along and it’s exactly what I needed.

    I had tried other CMSs out there like Joomla and Drupal, but I couldn’t get any of them to work exactly how I wanted them to. It took a bit more hacking, but I can manipulate Wordpress to do what I need it to.

    In my opinion, you can’t really compare Wordpress and Joomla. Wordpress is Blogging software while Joomla is a full-blown CMS. Different roles.

    Then again, the role of a CMS has changed a lot over the past few years to more of a group-ware role.

    That’s also true. It is was hard to compare the two, but exactly like you suggested, the definition of a CMS has changed and evolved over time.

    They have morphed into more of just general group-ware now instead of “this is a CMS” and “that is blog software.”

    Yes indeed Jonathan. And James, right indeed. Comparing the two, were the last thing we were doing. Its just that, both serves different purpose.

    For me, Wordpress is a much quicker thing to learn and execute.

    A good wordpress theme designer can take about one day to finish off a good theme. And without much hard work, a good designer can bring out great results. Look at this theme for example, I simply love the markups and the way Jonathan is displayed in the comments ! Gotta love that CSS inside.

    Anyway, have fun out there everyone.
