Microsoft Improves Live Search (Maybe?)

MercuryNews.com brings us this story. Hot off the press, Microsoft is being reported to have updated its Live Search which powers MSN.com’s search.

“Calling search ‘a killer app,’ Satya Nadella, corporate vice president, search and advertising platform, said Microsoft has made substantial improvements in understanding what people want when they type a few words into Microsoft’s search engine, Live.com, and in delivering more relevant responses.” But what I’m really wondering is what actually changed with the search algorithm.

I’ve checked some of my rankings and I’ve only seen what were the same positions as of about a year ago. We can certainly see that Live Search still does not obey robots.txt REGEX. So I still beg the question, what changed?

Microsoft is still playing catch-up with Google and Yahoo! because they have been so far behind in search for so long. Since the days of Microsoft ruling the tech industry, it has fallen back into a slump and really just let go of the reigns. With Google coming out with their own mobile phone and Apple having already released theirs, Microsoft is failing to stay in the industry — any industry.

People are becoming I am disgusted with Windows Vista and I know there are other people out there too that feel the same way as I do. XP was their last decent release and well, Microsoft is losing a grip on the tech industry.
