According to various sources around the web, Apple (”AAPL“) and VW (”VLKAY“) are in talks about co-creating the new iCar.
A Volkswagen representative confirmed to the German-language paper that talks were at an “early stage,” and that Steve Jobs met with VW CEO Martin Winterkorn several days ago to discuss the concept further.
So what’s the next move for the industry? For Google? Might this be the next rabbit trail for Google to try to get a piece of the action in? Apple has been able to focus on the music industry for quite some time. Already being a leader in the computer industry, the music hardware industry only seemed like their next logical move. Now Apple is involved with computers, music (iPod), mobile (iPhone), and now an emerging entrance to the automotive industry.
After looking at it from the larger scheme of everything, they would be able to integrate their laptops with their music devices through mobile technology utilizing automotive innovation. What do we have? One killer music-mobile-machine. You can download, re-charge, pay music, and drive around town. If all goes through, you will basically be able to live out of your car — Apple has a food-generator in their line-up next.
