Google’s Webmaster Central recently went through an overhaul in design. Many different aspects went into this update. New color scheme, better usability, and added features.

New Webmaster Central Design

This new web front of Google has been public was renamed to what it is today back in August 2006. Since then, we have seen a lot of changes, new features, and enhancements to the platform — which we have been thankful for.

The first thing I noticed with this new release is how to view different sites in your account. The prior dropdown list was far more effective than this new release — in my opinion. The new dropdown is just a div and you have to scroll through it if you have a lot of domains (such as I do). My first request would be that they revert back to the older dropdown style for selecting different sites within your account.

Secondly, the new design has a much closer to feel how Google Analytics now looks. The overhaul for Analytics happened just four months ago. It had been long-awaited since the day Google acquired MeasureMap. The reason I find them similar is how they place the navigation buttons on the left and leave the focus of navigation there. It wouldn’t surprise me if they adapted the Analytics design style completely.

The best feature that was added in this release would be the ability to see how many subscribers to you have to a specific site (that are subscribing via Google Reader.) Right now, I only have 47 subscribers via Google Reader, so hey, let’s increase that, alright? Thanks! I have a strong feeling that Google will soon integrate FeedBurner into this portal and allow for you to view your FeedBurner subscriber stats there too — but only time will tell for that.

Overall, it’s a great new addition to the Google family (even though it’s just a redesign and a couple new features.)
