Google Lied, New Developments of Google Cell

In March of this year, Google came out and definitively stated that they are “not doing a mobile phone.” Five months later, they are showing prototypes of the Google mobile phone. So what gives? Why did Google lie to the public just to cover something up?

There is no possible way that they put together a prototype in just 5 months after denying that they were developing a mobile phone.

This is what the Wall Street Journal has to say about it,

Google has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the cellphone project, say people who have been briefed on it. It has developed prototype handsets, made overtures to operators such as T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, and talked over technical specifications with phone manufacturers. It hopes multiple manufacturers will make devices based on its specs and multiple carriers will offer them.

I fail to see any legitament reason why Google would have openly lied to the public about creating the cell phone.

Noting that they did lie, this still does not come as a surprise that they would go ahead and develop a mobile phone. It only seemed logical through the recent advertising strategies we have been watching Google create and execute.
