Upcoming Google Competition

DW World writes that Germany is the upcoming competition for Google. Germany’s ministry of economics and technology will be begin their research into the Theseus project.

The project, which lists 22 partner organizations, companies and universities on its Web site, aims to create a multimedia search engine, a set of tools for translating text and identifying and indexing images, sound and text.

Google is definitely an industry leader for search right now, but I feel it’s really only dominating the English search area of the industry. With over 6800 languages around the world, there’s no possible way Google can master them all; nor will they ever. Google has been able to really focus on the English language, then spent time developing the Chinese division of search.

Google does have a long trek ahead of them to really be interational and be the best at international.

New competition is always great though, for any company (from the consumer’s view).

When companies compete, the consumer wins.
