I was recently invited to join in the beta of CS3 so I decided to download it and give it a shot. So here are my two cents on what I think of the new version of Photoshop.

One thing that really took to my attention were the new toolbars. As I was editing this image I went to the magic wand and there’s been an addition the magic wand tool. There’s a “quick select” function of the magic wand and then the regular magic wand tool now. This is one of hundreds new functions, I’m sure.
The other thing I noticed right away was the new toolbar structure. You can see the little arrow on the top left bar. That little arrow lets you chose a tall and 1 button thick menu or click it and it switches back to the original how it’s been with CS2 with a 2 button thick menu.
Looking at the right menu, you’ll see a level you can drag left to right below the image magnification image map. That draggable level item lets you control the zoom.
There are some cool new filters too which I might touch on later in another review.
Overall, I’m very impressed with this new release. While it’s still in beta, they’ve done a great job with it. I recently purchased Photoshop CS2, but I’m still quite happy I made the purchase. I won’t make the upgrade for a while and I’ll wait until they release the new version of Macromedia Studio as well. I’m quite happy with CS2 right now, but CS3 does look really nice.
