Online Advertising Turns to Google

As the buzz goes around, eMarketer has all the latest.
Google’s US ad revenue growth rate in 2006 will soar almost 65% over last year’s. Yahoo! still shows a respectable 17.5% growth rate, an increase that would satisfy most companies. But not one competing against Google. Just a year ago, Google and Yahoo! both posted US ad revenues of more than $2.4 billion. For the full year 2006, though, Google at $4 billion in ad revenue will eclipse Yahoo!’s ad revenue of $2.9 billion.
As I’ve been surfing around, trying new things, and reading other articles, I’ve notice something very simple. “It’s just easier with Google.” Matt Cutts, a Google employee, explains his situation with Yahoo! Search Marketing. I also received an e-mail today to sign-up with Yahoo! Search Marketing — I would get a $75 discount too! But after reading the fine print, the $75 is only off of the $199 setup charge to become an advertiser. How much does it cost to sign-up with Google’s AdWords? $5. $5 vs. $199….not a huge choice there. Google just makes it easier to sign-up and get started. People want to spend money on traffic for conversions, not on the setup. Yahoo! should start rethinking their methods because Google has started to gain control of the online advertising world.
This graph shows just how much Google has taken over in the past few years.
