Lots of new articles are popping up everyone that are talking about the new Google WiFi being active in Mountain View. With limited testing capabilities, Google is now offering WiFi with support to those being selected. Google has released a new sub-domain, http://wifi.google.com, which has some support help with the new WiFi service. Here’s a nice little quote from the FAQ:
1. What is Google WiFi?
Google WiFi is a free wireless Internet service offered to the city of Mountain View as part of our ongoing community outreach efforts.
13. Are there plans to bring Google WiFi to any other cities?
Google is working to provide a wireless network for the city of San Francisco. Currently, there is no set date regarding when this service will be available to residents of San Francisco, nor are there current plans to provide a wireless network to any other cities. Please refer back to this FAQ for future updates.
It’s a good service they are providing and I hope they can continue offering it for free, ad-free, to the community. Google has made some great contributions to the world.

It makes me wonder if Google has something very large in mind. If some company could pull it off, it would probably be Google.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did have something larger in mind. There was talk about Google buying up a lot of older and unused Dark Fibre laying around. Maybe that was for this network or maybe it’s for something larger.
