Microsoft Windows Vista - Part 2

As I’ve been using Windows Vista lately on my laptop, I have not been too entirely happy with the power management that has been designed in this new release. While this is yes, only RC1, it should have better power management. There are quite a few nice features that I like about this release, but there are quite a few things I do not like.

Pros

The new fades going to screensaver mode
The new UI design for the start menu

Cons

Finding the network connections takes too many steps
Search doesn’t seem much faster than it is in Windows XP
It draines energy to go on the screen saver than it does to just keep the monitor on

UPDATE: This post has been long over due. I ended up formatting my laptop back to Windows XP because I was very unhappy about the power management and wireless management. RC2 came out recently, but I’m sticking with XP for now. Maybe I’ll install RC2 under a VM somewhere.
