Googling Over Google on Google

Seems I’m not the only one in the world that uses the term “Google” as a common day word. “Just go Google it” or “Did you Google it?” are common phrases I’ll say in a day at work or at home. Google is still concerned about their trademark becoming too much of a common word and losing it’s defined meaning.
Google is not the first company to suffer from this brand name issue. Other companies like Kleenex, Aspirin, or Jello, have all faced these same brand name issues. When your company name begins to become the definition of what your product is, there’s a small problem with the marketing.
Sure, there are plenty of other search engines out there on the Internet today. Hotbot, Metacrawler, Yahoo!, MSN, and hundreds if not thousands of others out there. So why is Google having a problem with this brand name marketing? I feel it’s pretty basic. Google has become the most widely used search engine on the Internet. Yes, Yahoo! and MSN are strong competitors, but in the past 6 months I haven’t heard anyway say… “did you MSN it?” or “yeah, I just Yahoo’d it”….it’s just something I don’t often .. or ever hear.
